What Musician Andy Grammer Means to Us
We are SO excited to see Andy Grammer in concert in 2 days! EEEK!
Our whole family loves Andy. His music has gotten us through our darkest times and given us our BEST memories. Here are just a few reasons why we love him so much–
1. His music is super catchy (I dare you to listen to ‘Honey I’m Good’ without humming along) and heartfelt!
2. He is THE kindest human. He goes out of his way to connect with fans and does so much for children’s hospitals/charities worldwide.
3. He shares openly about losing his mom to breast cancer and sings about grief in a way that feels like being wrapped in a big hug.
4. He lives life the way we’d like to: turning pain into purpose, paying it forward, and spreading joy.
Our family started listening to Andy’s music like it was the soundtrack to our life in June 2022 after Y and I saw him in concert. Soraya had been discharged from the hospital that day, Ohana (our cat) was fighting a rare life-threatening disease, and the two of us just sobbed as he sang about grief– he understood us!
Later that year, Andy had a benefit concert at Cincinnati Children’s. We were lucky enough to meet him, and Y told him all about her connection to his music. His response? Inviting the girls on stage to sing with him that night!!!!
It was THE best moment in our lives. No exaggeration.
Fast forward to last summer. We knew Soraya’s health was continuing to decline, so we traveled across the state to see him again and splurged on meet-and-greet tickets. We sang on his tour bus and created more incredible memories. As if that wasn’t enough, he dedicated one of his songs to Soraya that night! (I told you he was THE kindest human!)
This time, we are bringing a whole crew (13 of us?!) and doing another meet and greet. I am SURE there will be tears. Just thinking about Andy’s mom and all the thoughts of breast cancer prevention/awareness for us currently has me choked up...
THANK YOU Andy Grammer for these core memories and for being an integral part of our family’s story...so much so that I may have you featured in my book 😉
