Parenting Norms Need Not Apply

With all the added time home and on her iPad, Soraya has been making endless wish lists of things she would like. Her new obsession has been wigs! Blonde, long hair wigs!

Safi and I have been adamantly against her getting a wig. We don’t want her to WANT to change her appearance. We don’t want her to feel like she needs to change anything to feel beautiful.

When Safi wasn’t around, Soraya again asked for a wig. She explained that she wanted to feel like a Drag King. Lol. She wanted to put on the wig and just feel for a moment that she had no insecurities. I caved and said yes.

As we were waiting for the wig, I couldn’t believe that I allowed my 12 year old kid to get a wig. This is wild! What parent would do that? I was questioning my parenting and my sanity.

Until I saw it on her. WOW! Not only did she look great – she FELT great. It brought her JOY and confidence. Both Safi and I loved watching her in the wig.

That’s when I realized – parenting norms don’t apply to me. There’s nothing “normal” about our life and nothing “normal” or typical about the choices we make.

My heart is so happy that she gets some magical moments with this wig! I love my Diva Power Queen ❤️
